You Do Not Need To Redesign To Change The Look Of Your Home

You can have a lot of fun redesigning a home but it can also be a lot of work at the same time. There are far simpler ways to make changes if you are bored with the look of your house. They do not even have to cost you much in either time or money.

New home decor accents are simple ways to add a new look to any room. Choices abound in this category such as throw pillows, wall hangings and candles, just to name a few. These can all be had in a variety of styles and colors that can be mixed and matched to keep the look fresh.

Other types of accents are functional in nature as well. For example, tablecloths, napkins and place mats are all ways to add color and freshness to dining rooms and kitchens. Though simple, they can do a lot to perk you up when you enter the room.

Another room that can be changed by getting new linens is the bathroom. Hand towels that match always had a classy look for you and anyone who uses them. You might add some scented soaps as well. You do not have to use them to enjoy the way it makes the room more fragrant.

If you want to perk up the nursery, you can try some designer baby bedding. This can be a great way to indulge both your desire to pamper your child and to home decorate. There is no need to feel guilty about the purchase. Designer bedding is often better quality than the cheaper variety. Higher quality bedding will last longer and keep your baby warmer.

You can decorate your own bedroom by purchasing a bedding collection in a color that pleases you. It will look much nicer if sheets, comforter and pillowcases match. You can even change the curtains and drapes for a matching color as well.

One of the nicest finishing touches to a room is a vase of flowers. It is quite satisfying to spend a little time arranging new additions each week. You will have a home accent that adds to the mood with both beauty and its aroma.

Diffusers or incense can also add a pleasing aroma that changes how a room feels. Look into a bit of aromatherapy and choose therapeutic scents. For example, you can get something to relax you while taking a bath or going to sleep. You only need a little money and imagination to make your home feel new.

Whether They Admit It Or Not, Everyone Is An Interior Designer

Your home’s interior design is very much like your clothes – it reflects who you are. Many people are cynical about fashion and interior design. They say the first is for ‘fashion victims’ and the second is for snobs. There is some truth to those statements, but only because clothes and homes are for everyone, including snobs and fashion addicts.

Think about it. We all live someplace and even if we live with our family, we still leave our mark in some way or other. Even a fridge magnet or those little home decor accents you placed on the window sill makes you a contributor to your home’s decor.

Traditionally, men have been the ones to deny that they had anything to do with decorating their homes. ‘I just pay the bills, ‘ a husband quipped, ‘the little woman chose the designer baby bedding and everything else in here.’ The wife chose the color schemes, the fabrics and everything else, so she was the main home decorator.

That was true as far as it went, but as a member of the household, the husband did always leave his imprint. He had his favorite easy chair, for instance, and you can bet that if the wife chose girly designer crib bedding for his future football playing infant son, he raised quite a stink!

What’s the point of all this? Just this: you are an interior designer, whether you know it or like it or not. Why not make the best of this inescapable truth and let your home’s interior reflect the things you like the best about yourself?

Hopefully, you are already enough of a decorator to clean up after yourself! Next time you’re cleaning up the room, why not move some things around or change them altogether. Have a good look around and see what still means something to you and what’s just there because you no longer notice it. Change those old photos on the wall or shift them to another place. Just doing little things like that can make for a refreshing change.

Your home, however humble or grand, should be a place of comfort and inspiration to you. If it is, it can help you on your life’s journey in immeasurable ways. Don’t think that you’re not an interior designer or that it doesn’t matter. It does, in more ways than you may know!
